Imagine coaching in the Super Bowl and your entire starting defense was from your local high school team. How do you think you would fare?
The answer is obvious. It wouldn’t matter how well your offense played. Your team would get crushed.
Indeed, the whole approach is so preposterous that any coach would be laughed off the field for even trying it.
And yet, the medical establishment takes the same approach with your immune system. They tell you that immunity is all about white blood cells and antibodies and so forth.
Well, these things only make up the “offense” of your immunity team. And to win, you need more than just a strong offense. You also need a strong defense.
Unfortunately, the medical establishment pays very little attention to what makes a strong defense.
That’s because back in the 1800s a French scientist named Louis Pasteur said there’s only one thing your body has to fight to stay healthy – the germ.
Pasteur believed that we become sick when germs (such as bacteria, molds, prions, and fungi) invade our body. This is what he called “germ theory.”
Germ theory has become gospel among the conventional medical establishment. They accept without question that your body simply has to beat the germ to stay healthy.
That’s why they talk so much about white blood cells and antibodies. And it’s also why they say vaccines are so important. They lead you to believe that as long as you use these “offensive” weapons, you should be fine.
But as I mentioned before, a football team with an offense and no defense doesn’t stand a chance.
So what is your defense? It’s the overall environment of your body. This is called the terrain.
The term “terrain” was coined by two of Pasteur’s peers, Antoine Béchamp and Claude Bernard. They argued that a body with a healthy terrain will be able to repel any germ or other assault. They said if your terrain isn’t strong, the rest of your immune system can only do so much.
So who was right? Modern medicine will tell you Pasteur was. But toward the end of his life, Pasteur himself said: “Bernard was right. The germ is nothing. It’s the terrain that is everything.”
So What Is Your Terrain?
As I mentioned earlier, the terrain is the environment that keeps out germs and other assaults. This environment includes your skin, your digestive system, your liver, your kidneys, and all the fluids of your body.
But the most important part of your terrain is each individual cell. You see, each cell has its own defense – a cell wall.
If this complex system is working correctly, it works much like a defense does in football.
The defense’s main objective is to keep the other side from crossing the goal line and scoring a touchdown. And your terrain has a similar objective. It has to keep any foreign invaders from crossing the cell walls and damaging your cells.
So how can you make sure your terrain is a championship-caliber defense?
Here’s What Makes a Strong Terrain
There are 3 things that will make your terrain inhospitable to germs, toxins, and other foreign invaders.
First, drink lots of water. Water is an essential part of your terrain. Remember, 70% of your body is water. Water flushes toxins from your body. And it carries nutrients to your cells.
One of the first signs that your cells are suffering is dehydration. And dehydration causes inflammation and keeps the rest of your terrain from operating at its peak.
Second, your body needs to move. Movement forces oxygen and other nutrients into your cells. It strengthens your muscles. And it keeps the fluid in your body moving, which helps remove foreign invaders.
Your Terrain’s Biggest Need
Finally, your terrain needs nourishment. Lots of it!
The problem is that most Americans don’t get enough nourishment, even if they’re eating plenty of food and taking a multivitamin.
Why? Because the food grown today isn’t what it used to be. First of all, our soil is routinely depleted of nutrients through overfarming and through the use of artificial fertilizers instead of biologically active compost.
Second, most commercial produce is picked before it’s ripe, then allowed to ripen on a truck. So that “fresh” produce you see in your supermarket is not fresh at all. And many times the nutritional content is next to nil.
Third is what we ourselves do to the food before we eat it. When we freeze it, thaw it, boil it, bake it, or microwave it, we kill as much as 80% of the nutrients originally found in the food.
Fourth — and most detrimental of all — is the food refining process. Refined foods like sugar and white flour are thoroughly stripped of vitamins and minerals during the refining process.
Now here’s the kicker: In addition to providing you with a lot of empty calories, these refined foods actually DEPLETE your body of vital nutrients! Here’s why:
Your body needs certain amounts of vitamins and minerals just to metabolize the food you eat. If the food itself doesn’t contain those nutrients, the body is forced to look for them elsewhere.
Result: even though we appear to be eating well, we suffer from “micro-malnutrition” – deficiencies of very specific nutrients. Each of these specific deficiencies has an effect. And these effects create symptoms.
In fact, any symptom you have is your terrain telling you there’s something wrong!
What most doctors don’t realize is that some of those symptoms are similar to the symptoms caused by infections.
For instance, your doctor will likely blame a loss of the senses of smell and taste on an infection. But a study from 2016 (and others) found that it could be a zinc deficiency.
Bleeding gums could be the result of the bacterium P. gingivalis. But many studies have found that a vitamin C deficiency could be the cause.
And chronic bowel problems could be due to another bacterium – H. pylori. However, some studies have found that a vitamin B1 deficiency might be the culprit.
If antibiotics or antifungals don’t clear up your problem, your doctor may look at your symptoms and tell you it’s just aging. But those signs of aging could be a vitamin B12 deficiency.
Build Your Championship-Caliber Defense
So if you want your defense to be able to handle any foreign invader, the secret is simple. Drink plenty of water, exercise, and focus heavily on nutrition.
Start by eating a diet rich in fruits and veggies, grass-fed meat, and healthy fats (coconut, olive, etc.).
Then, make sure you’re taking a high-quality multivitamin – one that has an abundance of nutrients. The one-a-day from the big-box store won’t cut it. You need a lot more than the RDA of most nutrients to have a strong terrain.
One multivitamin I saw had only 120 mg of vitamin C. You need at least 500 mg daily. Another had only 800 IU of vitamin A. You need at least 2,500 IU daily. And another had only 400 IU of vitamin D. You need at least 5,000 IU daily. This is just a sample. Many people need much, much more.
Next, pay attention to any symptoms that pop up. They will usually tell you what’s wrong with your terrain – and it’s probably not a drug deficiency. But there’s likely a natural way to fix it.
• Memory problems could indicate you need fish oil.
• Joint pain could mean you need boron
• Vision issues could signal a need for lutein
It’s not always that simple. So if you can’t figure out what’s causing the symptoms, talk to an integrative physician. Your doctor can order a lab test to make sure your terrain has all the nutrition it needs.
Your doctor can also tell you if you’re overloaded by toxins and give you ways to detox.
Of course, try to limit your exposure to anything that might adversely affect your terrain. Avoid chemicals in cigarettes, drugs, pollution, pesticides, etc. And try to skip any fake foods, such as sugar, processed foods, and other chemical-based “foods.”
If you do these things, it’s highly unlikely you’ll have to deal with many illnesses.
Finally, always remember that in football and in health, defense wins championships. If you want to stay healthy, make sure your terrain – your body’s defense – is in tip-top shape.
